The Polish artist Małgorzata Mirga-Tas combines past and present in her textile “paintings,” weaving stories of family, community, solidarity, and self-empowerment.
Her focus is on the lives of Romani communities, Europe’s largest ethnic minority, with a particular emphasis on the perspective of women. Through the visually powerful combination of different textiles and patterns, she creates an intimate picture of the everyday life of the Romani people, often linked to historical narratives. The Kunstmuseum Wolfsburg is showing this extraordinary artist’s work on this scale for the first time in Germany, including parts of the series Re-Enchanting the World, with which Małgorzata Mirga-Tas has caused an international sensation since her participation in the Venice Biennale in 2022. The exhibition is an international collaboration with the Kunstmuseum Luzern (Lucerne, Switzerland) and the Henie Onstad Kunstsenter (Høvikodden, Norway).
